Eng. To America

Hello there,

It has been a while, well we are in U.S. for 2 weeks now and I can promise you it is great!
Actually it is a long story before our departure from Holland, Lisa and I still had to move all our stuff to the storage. That was not nice, not nice at all, however we were able to succeed. (do not ask us how :P )

Well on our way to Schiphol (Amsterdam Airport) we had 4 big (huge) suitcases and 2 small suitcases and 2 full backpacks and too much weight, you can imagine... where is the luggage going with the 2 little girls...

First impression of U.S. ... huge people... not tall, but huge... however the people are very friendly, really.
We almost got lost at Chicago airport to our connection to Minneapolis, well we have survived :).

We arrived Friday (31 August) evening at the campus, it is HUGE... and very nice.
Right the next morning we had a trip to the Minnesota State Fair, it was as you already might know... huge, thousands of people. And everything was on a stick, ha ha... Hot dogs on a stick, spaghetti on a stick, fruit on a stick, just anything you can imagine. It was fun though just watching around, people (eating) everywhere.

The night of Sunday was kind of different I would say, there was a Fire Alert at 3.45 a.m. and trust me that is not funny. It took Lisa some time to get me out of bed. At the CHN (Uni. in NL) it is usually falls-alarm so this time it didn't bothered me to get out of bed. In the end we looked outside the window in the hallway and saw all the other residents of the whole building already outside... oooops... runnn
. So you can imagine how everybody was looking at us when we came out...
After 1 hour in the cold we could enter the building again, someone was playing with the fire-extinguisher that was the reason.

Another joke... right the same morning at 11 a.m. the Fire Alert went off again, and yes we had to go outside for 1 hour. This time the staff were cleaning the powder of the fire-extinguisher.
And in final at 12 a.m. the Fire Alert went of again as monthly routine checking, so it was fun... Horrible I would say... We sure hope this wouldn't happen frequently. We have been told that it is even more fun in the winter with the snow, nice and cold... >_<> we have treated ourselves and bought ourselves a bike to explore the town. The bikes are cheap and antiques... fun though.

About the Uni... loads of homework. We were planning JUST to have fun in U.S.... however we forgot the homework... :(

Well it is time to hit the bar down town, the homework can wait...
And tomorrow we have a Renaissance Festival, so it is going to be funnnn...

Take care, and hope to hear from you from where ever you are :)
Smiles from U.S.A. Wisconsin-Menomonie

Hi Girls,

You two make me very proud while going to the USA as exchange students.

Please do not forget to party a lot. Hope to see many party photos in future on your blog. Perhaps you could turn on the fire alarm the next time. ;-)

If you need something Holland that I have to send to you. Please let know. Perhaps some real original Dutch bikes? Perhaps a bike repair guy can pimp up your present bikes?

With love, your Sista
Zhen Shan
